ACCESS MACHINES inspections
Due to the nature of the normal working environment of ACCESS PLATFORMS and AERIAL LIFTING EQUIPMENT , operating at height, it is imperative to ensure all employees and operators can work at height in a safe and productive manner.
UK Government legislation states that the employer or owner is responsible for any lifting equipment on site and is legally obliged to maintain it in a safe working condition for the operator.
The process by which compliance with this legislation is achieved and monitored is referred to THOROUGH EXAMINATION (LOLER 98)
LOLER 98 REGULATIONS
The LOLER 98 regulations state that: “…all equipment must be thoroughly examined by a competent person at least every 6 months or more frequently if used in a hostile environment”.
Powered access platforms therefore require regular checks, inspections and maintenance to keep it safe for use, similar to a car’s MOT. A Thorough Examination in accordance with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER 98) should be carried out every six months by a competent person, and often more frequently if used in a hostile environment. Records must be kept of all Thorough Examinations and any defects found must be reported immediately to the responsible person.
LOLER 98 COMPLIANCE
Every 6 months our fully trained and industry experienced engineers will carry out a Thorough Examination of your POWERED ACCESS PLATFORM or fleet of lifting equipment you own or operate.
A Report of Thorough Examination for each machine will be produced on successfully passing the inspection, which you must keep and make available upon request. The inspection will identify any areas of the machinery that require attention and our engineers will provide you with a estimate to rectify these issues, your ACCESS PLATFORM or LIFTING EQUIPMENT will then receive its Report of Thorough Examination upon completion of all of the recommended work.
Should the examination highlight a defect or defects that materially contribute to the machine operating in a dangerous manner to any operators, we will recommend that your ACCESS PLATFORM or LIFTING EQUIPMENT is not used, and must be taken out of service immediately until the defect has been rectified.
